At FatBoy Construction it's the process that sets us apart. From the initial meeting to the final walk through. We want our clients to know that we not only manage the building end of a remodel, we more importantly manage our clients expectations. We want you to understand the process and be a part of it.

Established in 2001

Mike Boyle founded Fatboy Construction, Inc. in 2001. After graduating college and working as a commercial fisherman in the Bering Sea, Mike returned to his roots: The son of a Tacoma building contractor, he grew up in the construction industry where he developed a passion for fine craftsmanship. Fatboy Construction is the culmination of his dream to do work that he loves and to provide personalized service with the highest quality and integrity.

The Process

We have intentionally remained a small company in order to provide you with personalized service through every phase of the process. We perform or supervise all the work ourselves, and we do everything as if we were working on our own home. That pride—in our work, in our service and in your satisfaction—is central to how we do business.

Our commitment to you is that we will deliver the work with the highest quality and integrity, that we will always follow through, and that you will find us responsible, professional and collaborative partners in the process.

That commitment begins with our first meeting: We listen. We understand that building a new custom home or a major remodel is a deeply personal process, and our role is to help you realize your vision. At Fatboy Construction, we’re here to help you create the unique living spaces that meet your needs and fulfill your dreams for your home.

About Our Name

Our name and logo comes from a favorite dog that belonged to Mike during his years in Alaska. While Mike was at sea, “Fatboy” stayed home and had a tendency to overeat. When Mike returned to port, he would train for marathons and, in the process, would work with “Fatboy” to restore the Dalmatian’s sleek appearance.

“Mike and his team built a beautiful new deck on our home. Dave and the onsite crew worked professionally and quickly to finish the project. The craftsmanship and attention to detail on even this small project were tremendous. We love our new deck and would not hesitate to recommend Fat Boy to our friends and family.”

Heather Burgess

“Designing and building a custom home with Fatboy Construction was an amazing and rewarding experience! Mike’s entire team is extremely professional and a delight to work with. Not having built a custom home before, we were not certain what the process entailed. Mike and his team made it a very enjoyable experience from start to finish. We were very budget conscious so he offered us much flexibility with our choices including doing some of the work ourselves. It was gratifying to have so much latitude with our project but also complete support from his team throughout. If we ever build another custom home we will make sure to use Fatboy Construction!”

Becky Weaver

“Working with Fatboy was a terrific experience. Our extensive remodel took place while my husband was deployed, and throughout the entire process (both exiting and nerve-wracking at the same time), everyone I came in contact with was exceptionally helpful, friendly, and very professional. Above and beyond what I expected. Time spent on attention to detail and making sure that I was satisfied came together to produce a home that I love and still marvel at when I return to it. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Fatboy Construction. Great people, great company.”

Christine

“Mike, We wanted to let you know what a great job you and your crew did. First, you guys nailed the minor things like being right on time, cleaning up and being easy to work with. But the two most important factors were that you took the time to actually listen to what we needed and then executed in a superior manor. When the beams supporting our house were flexing too much, your framers went “above and beyond ” in structurally bracing our floor. These guys quickly brought our house to a rock solid, true and level condition.

It’s not often that you get more than you expected. No wonder your team takes pride in their work.”

Another update on the Mercer Island house

The Mercer Island Home Remodel interior had some challenges to deal with. The original framers had framed a fire place surround that encompassed two stories. With the short sale we had no idea of what to do with it or how to complete it. Our team of designers and field staff come up with concrete. That would give the house a nice contemporary look and would be a clean look. The home owners suggested that

Mercer Island House, part 3

So from the last blog we were speaking of the veneer stone work on the Mercer Island Home. Here are the finished photos of the exterior. We finished the soffits with a clear cedar tongue and grove that was stained. The clear cedar has no knots in it so it gives it that clean linear look. We ran the cedar perpendicular to the main house so it would stand out and give it that POP
